Jordi van Oort obtained his MSc. In Forest and Nature Conservation from Wageningen University in The Netherlands. After a year of conservation studies in South Africa, he focussed his research on the effect of elephants on the savannah ecosystem and the herbivore assemblages in the western section of Greater Kruger National Park. Next to this ecological focus, Jordi has a great interest in the people that managed to thrive within rural areas and landscapes. As a trainee with the Sacred Natural Sites Initiative and through his work in South Africa he learned a lot about the challenges that communities are facing and the incredible (ekologické) knowledge they hold. Jordi has co-organised special programmes for the custodians of sacred natural sites at international conferences such as IUCN WCC and the ISE. He has developed the IN Perspective project and constructively lends his support to fund raising, networking and communication work at SNSI.
