The site descriptions in this section reflect the experiences of of custodians, protected area managers, academics and other supporters of sacred natural sites conservation with protecting, conserving and revitalising sacred natural sites. They have been developed together with the Sacred Natural Sites Initiative using a similar structure or template allowing easy comparison and a familiar environment across all descriptions.

The filter at the top of the page lets you select cases by the level of threat, the continent they are located on or the partners who helped develop the descriptions.

The descriptions are supported by field reports, case studies contributed to proceedings, results from surveys, legal reviews, scientific articles and practitioner data. Linkages to these references and resource materials have been added to the research section allowing you to go into a case's background.

Whilst this archive is being expanded Free and Prior Informed Consent protocols are being improved. This way, we ensure that we sensitively gather information about sacred natural sites.

Some site descriptions are the direct result of collaboration with other organisations and partners that work on sacred natural sites such as SANASI and Delos Initiative.
